Moments of Awesomeness

• Barney. While has has seemed to take a backseat in recent episodes there was no shortage of humor from him tonight. Doppelganger,
• Loved that there were no shortage of jokes at the expense of Blonde Ted… check out my favorites below. Which leads me to…
• Blonde Ted. Love the way they played Ted into getting it done. Sure he looked ridiculous at first but like Marshall, Barney & Lily…I started to like it too. Maybe he was in fact, pulling this off.
• Don… well, the fact that he is gone. The fact that he took the job confirmed his jerkness for me.
• The Ted/Robin fake out… at one point you might have almost seen a nasty tweet from bawesomeinstead. I though they were going to go down that road AGAIN! I mean, come on, why keep teasing that when you’ve told us she is obviously not the mother…k I digress, because there were just having a bit of fun with us. Those crafty devils.
• The Awesomeness Poster. Not just that, finally a view of Barney’s office this season! If you haven’t noticed I’ve got a thing for Barney’s office posters. I’ve made conformity, perfection, awesomeness, a suit-up poster… And I’ve got some more in the works. It’s an obsession I know. Sorry for the plug, it’s what pays for the site.
• Monty and Moo-Moo’s commentary on drug use. Fun Fact…highest rated episode of Monty & Moo-Moo ever.
• I wonder if that was Ranjit’s cab. Where is Ranjit anyhow…or Carl, or Wendy? Come on.

The Wrap-Up

So I’m not wild that Robin story line seemed familiar. Then again, maybe it’s just foreshadowing that eventually, things will change. While I’m happy to see Don go, I hated it that Robin put here self out there and committed to Don and then it just ended up biting her in the ass. And OMG, I’m so glad they didn’t take the other rode that was worn out and send us down yet another Ted & Robin road  but instead chose to screw with us. Nice.

I love Lily & Marshall. Not so wild about the possibility of a baby, but I’m sure there are some funny stories associated with that. I mean the scenes we already got were excellent.  For the record, “put a baby in my belly” seems like a horrible thing to say. Who’s with me?

While we are no closer to the mother, not even in a toying way this episode, I feel that Ted’s reminder of how everyone has changed is important.  Sure some people just want the secrets, but ask yourself this…do you really care about these characters? I do, so the season finale for me was excellent. Sure it’s not the same people as in Season 1 or 2, but everything changes and I’m sticking around to see what develops.

Moments of Awesomeness

• Loved the way the Wedding Bride Actors “slipped” in Ted’s name instead of Jed Mosley. Ok, he definitely said it that time ~Ted
• Judy Greer (Royce) was excellent. And she was on Big Bang Theory just last week. I remember her from a short lived series called Love Monkey with Tom Cavanaugh…oh well, too bad she ended up with baggage.
• Didn’t they use that same helping people move or robbing their apartment bit in Murtaug?
• Major Baggage. Such a fun game.
• Break Dancing Marshall. One of my top HIMYM moments ever… also reminded me of Seinfeld when Kramer walked down the street in the Technicolor dream coat, I digress.
• Barney, while being absent from a good part of the episode, was seeing the Wedding Bride again.
• the Red Boots in the Weddings Bride. GCWOK approved, plus..pulling. them. off.
• Baggage. Did anyone catch those? Some of my favorites: Cubs Fan, Elvis is Alive, Slept With Barney, Tri-Polar, Still thinks his ska band is going to take off…I counted 3 of the Slept with Barney bags. How Funny.
• Barney’s moments were hilarious.

The Wrap-Up

First off, no way Chris Katan would be in the 5th highest grossing movie of all time.  Secondly, everyone does have baggage, whether you see it or not. True Story. And thirdly (?), let me just say that my first impression of the episode was not the same as it is now. Keep in mind though I’ve watched it 3 more times though.

I, like Robin, feel that a lot of Ted’s moments are pretty cheesy. The theater scene between Royce, Ted, Pancakes and Barney chanting something besides “Kiss Him” fell pretty cheesy. But honestly I loved moment of everything.

The Wedding bride movie was definitely done over the top. And in a good way. I loved CBS’s tweet/facebook question “What if they made a movie about your life and made you the bad guy?!”. Makes me wonder if this is all of the movie, Stella and Tony we will see or not. I mean they seemed to put a lot into it for a one off ep. And considering no mention of Don, Babies, Ted’s house or anything else that would firmly place this in a HIMYM time line, I doubt it’s more than that.

Not a lot of Barney lately but what we get from his is always gold. Marshall in my opinion really carries the show in the supporting actor range. If you haven’t noticed most of the Legendary Lines I like are or concern Marshall. I dunno why.

I love watching these characters and do think a lot of things haven’t changed since Season 1, but overall I really don’t think this is the same show. A story now seems to be told differently from then. There is just a new feel about it. Stories like the Wedding Bride seem so rushed unfortunately, whereas a S1 or S2 ep might have more of a laid back feel to it. I’m not saying this is a good or bad think, but it’s something I have noticed lately. I see a lot of fans on twitter who really don’t like the evolution of the show over time. From where I sit though, it’s not my creation… only something I get to sit and enjoy. And as long am I’m laughing I will keep doing that.

ps… I hate the phrase “No can do’sville baby doll”…it may be an iconic phrase for the Wedding Bride but I hope it doesn’t catch on.

• Ted gets married..or is found alone in his apartment devoured by his cats… but he is a dog person!
• Even Robin is flaking on her professionalism on the show. Loved the on air phone call.
• Robots vs. Wrestlers… did you know it’s actually real? Well Kinda: check this
• Douchepcoclypse, including Will Shortz, Peter Bogdanovich, Arianna Huffington and many more. excellent use of guest stars.
• Lily’s British Marissa Heller impression
• Ted’s skills at that party, while quite douchey and pretentious, were quite impressive. Wonder if Future Ted is embellishing a bit? Still Douch Ted is no match for drunk Ted.

The Wrap-Up

   Tonight was funny. A lot of Ted tonight, I like Ted, good thing becasue it’s his story. His story telling is always interesting to me. Sometimes, it’s intentionally misleading, sometimes Ted forgets, sometimes he leaves things out. One example from tonight is Ted’s party skills. While impressive do you really think he is that good with wine and Latin?  More importantly though, what about what isn’t mentioned about Robin? I may be assuming but at the beginning of the episode she said if she and Don were going to work then she couldn’t be around especially with 2 of her ex’s present. Then at the end, walks in Robin. Are we to take it that they are no more or did she just compromise her earlier view? I fell it’s just set up for the season finale, but maybe not.

   Secondly, when do you think we will see Barney’s doppelganger? I can’t see HIMYM having kids to deal with on the seat so I feel like there will be a lot more to it when Lily & Marshall decide to have a child but this isn’t the first time this season that having a baby has been mentioned in relation to them (the first being in Last Cigarette Ever).

    So over all I liked it, I could say more but I want to let everyone else talk. So, what did you think of Robots vs. Wrestlers?

I won’t get to do a full review tonight. We’ve had some bad flooding in TN this weekend and I’ve been dealing with cleanup lately.

    I’m not really a monkey fan but I did like Zoo or False. It was definitely a stand alone story and from checking out the post episode reaction on twitter, I feel that there is a real split decision over good or bad. <side note..don’t forget to follow me on twitter!> I vote funny though, maybe it’s only because of the break between episodes, but whatever it was it worked…

   The burning question is simple, did Marshall get mugged by a monkey? Did he get mugged at all? Maybe he just didn’t want to pay for pizza, despite have the coupon with his cartoon image on it? Also, the Many injuries he has managed to accidentally inflict on Lily in the past was insane. I had a hard time holding it in when he punched her in the face.

    Lily’s contemplation of buying a gun was could have only added to the violence problems in their house. Though actually, I was surprised how opposed to guns Marshall was despite how much fun he had shooting in Season 2 when Robin took him. A part of me hates that Robin is seen as a gun nut, though with such a tiny chick toting what looks to be a .50 cal Desert Eagle…let’s just say it may be a greatly exaggerated situation.

   The larger question in my mind, is overlooked. Barney’s story lies and Ted’s opening and closing quotes (denoted in Legendary Lines with *), lead me to wonder if there is a hidden message here. Maybe about the mother, maybe about details… maybe nothing. But essentially, we devoted a whole episode to something that we may never know the truth about. Obviously this isn’t a first time (think Pineapple Incident for one), but should we be concerned in relation to the overall story? Ask yourself this, Is Ted just making up details or even worse an ending for his kids? I mean a revelation like that could easily play into the annoying lack of substantial mother information given by the show. I don’t think so but I think it’s worth stopping to ask.

Moments of Awesomeness

• Ted’s tribute to Sleepless in Seattle…How long have you been out here…just 10 seconds… yea, JUST the last scene.
• Marshall’s love for pizza including the cartoon of Marshall on the Pizza company’s coupon, eating pizza in the shower, and the call back to Dual Citizenship (TANTRUM!!!)
• Barney seriously convinced a girls he was Neil Armstrong… plus the moment when she walks up later and calls him Neil…nice ironic moment.

• The monkey…however cute and annoying it maybe, had a great moment when when he had the banana on a string.
• The 3 Way belt…tell your friends. Lily’s high five was a nice touch too.
• True Story makes any quote more credible. (originally used on Barney’s awesomeness poster)
• I loved the King Kong ending…and maybe I’m just getting slow but how did we not see that gag coming? The set-up was like 25 minutes long…

no re-return this week (I know, odd right? right?) but I will mention something fun. I’m always checking out twitter before new episodes to see what the buzz is and this week I ran across @TalkingTV who just happened to live tweet the whole episode. I (@bawesomeinstead) had a great time seeing what he had to say and to some extent doing the same. Next ep make sure you are following us both during ht ep for a play-by=play sort of feel. I would love to hear what you have to say as it’s happening. And don’t worry, I try really hard to follow back so I can hear your tweets too!

It’s very late and I’m on vacation so the bulk of this will have to wait, thought I really want to know your thoughts on some things.

First off, I thought the episode was solid. Great flashbacks, worked pretty well on continuity I thought and kept me laughing all the way through. Barney’s awesomeness and inability to take a bad photo was great. Marshall’s love for games came through even at Lily’s party too and that really made me laugh. A ton of great moments and quoted but I wonder what stuck out to you.

Secondly, Did the one year from now birthday shot tell us anything? To me it says that Ted isn’t with the Mother yet…has he "met" her, possibly (or possimpibly, whatever) but since it’s just the 5 of them I would say that Ted isn’t with a "the one" girl. No Don either… and you would think that after a year it would be acceptable. He could just be out of town but I would put my money on him being gone within the year. Also, it may be a small detail but Marshall & Lily are in the same place. No baby either..I had heard once that LAME might have a baby but I hope not since it would change the show dynamic a lot! Did you see anything else? Reading other items of interest in? It’s in my nature to search for these things, but I miss a lot. What did you see?

Finally…music. I loved Marshall’s happy Birthday Lily (Lori?) song…that guy cracks me up. But the French Rap song… just awful. Well placed, but it was so bad it was comical. Btw. It’s "Briques" by Les Cautionneurs . I can’t find the song for sale but it could be under a different name, I’ve left you the Amazon and iTunes band links above if you want to search and report back. I’m horrible at French and draw the line for listening to music at something that horrible where that combines the worst elements of rap and a language I don’t understand. Wewe? Bonjour.
