I was skeptical at first of Bill Lawrence and Zach Braff’s assurance the finale would be good. I hereby renounce my skepticism and admit that they are genius. I’m extremely glad that ABC gave Scrubs the ending it deserved. It actually left me feeling resolved in a way. Sure I would love to see more Scrubs, but if I don’t ever get it then fine. The finale* was happy, funny, sad, entertaining and was the perfect testament to a show that through 8 seasons was the perfect balance of drama and comedy.

Dr. Cox was sufficiently humanized yet remained very…errr…Cox-ish? Kelso’s role was ended well and Ted got to keep his girl. Very cool. Turk was amazing the whole episode. And I so wish I had a copy of the book that JD made for Dr. Cox. Sheer brilliance. JD not only herd the praise from Dr. Cox that he always wanted but also got that hug. Maybe he didn’t get it back but he didn’t get punched for it either.

I have to admit something else, first I knew the janitor’s name (Glenn Matthews) and was right. So nah nah nah na na. But after that, I will admit that despite going into the season an anti-JD/Elliot enthusiast, I was turned. During JD’s fantasy/future sequence I was cool with what he visualized. Especially the sort of ode to Will and Grace part with Turk and JD’s kids. The kicker to it all though is it was still left undetermined. JD’s fantasy was just that. You decide for yourself. The Janitors name, well right after that someone called him Tony, so even that wasn’t certain, decide for yourself.

There was so much nostalgia in this episode and I loved every minute of it. The random callbacks such as Dr. Cox’s rant to Sunny that he had used on JD long ago, the reference to wanting a “sitcom ending” (Cheers?), and I’m sure a few other things that I’ll find the next time I watch it. The string of guest stars in his fantasy walk out were delightful. My favorites were Lonnie, Hooch (who is crazy), Dan, Collin Hay (who I expected music from) and Ms. Tanner (the old lady who told him to just lay in the grass, which I do often now in honor of Scrubs). I wish we could have had seen a few others like Michal J. Fox (Dr. Kevin Casey) and Brendan Frazier (Ben), but what we got was more than satisfying. However I am disappointed there was no cameo by Hugh Jackman.

In the end though, change is hurts more than you expect. JD wanted a grand send off and though he had some moments with people, he eventually walked out alone to get in his car one last time and drive away from Sacred Heart. Luckily though, since some much was implied, given alternatives, or fantasized it’s easy for a fan to draw their own conclusion, or even come back if they wanted to in some fashion.

Thanks to Scrubs for a great final* season and a spectacular 8 years. Scrubs was easily one of the best shows on television and despite it feeling like I’m losing a friend, I’ll still have my DVD’s. In my opinion, Scrubs has set a standard for television that’s is near impossible to match. Some shows may get the drama right or the comedy, but I doubt any show will ever do as well as Scrubs all around. Farewell Scrubs… Goodbye five?

Also, sorry if I went a little picture happy, but it was awesome.

What did everyone else think?

My Quotes:

JD: …the number next to each passage is a rating from 1 to 5 based on how much that particular passage hurt me emotionally…

Ted: Aww man, they got my coffee wrong.
Carla: How’s that?
Ted: Because it’s dirt.

Dr. Cox: Un…let it arrive…acceptable

JD: We smell like regret

Janitor: If you surprise someone with an accusation they are more likely to tell you the truth.

Dr. Cox: I’m real sorry there, newbie. But this is not a special day for me. It’s just a day.

JD: Endings are never easy. I always build them up so much in my head, they can’t possibly live up to my expectations, and I just end up disappointed. I’m not even sure why it matters to me so much ow things end here. I guess it’s because that we all want to believe that what we do is very important: that people hang on to our every word, that people care what we think. The truth is, you should consider yourself lucky if you even occasionally get to make someone, anyone, feel a little better. After that, it’s all about the people you let into your life.

My Greatest Moments:

EAGLE!!!!

Turks growls during the hug

Elliot and Carla’s hug was awesome. “It’s happening!”

JD really did put the penny in the door.

Any of the Janitor stories. They are some of the funniest parts of the show. Muh-night Shamalon…

Dr. Cox’s rant book has to be the best book ever. I wish I could buy it.

The Janitors name, Glenn Matthews…or is it?

Dr. Cox tells someone how he really felt about JD and allows him to get a hug.

The whole kind of choose your own true ending worked well.

The memory lane trip down the hall to “Book of Love” was done so well. Bravo.

Bill Lawrence pulls down the screen at the end, how fitting.

Don’t Miss the Credits:

A great collection of outtakes set to an acapella version of Superman, the shows theme. Neil Flynn’s alternative rant was amazing and fries being thrown at Ted, so funny.

Synopsis:

Things get weird for J.D. when he discovers the identity of Kim’s new man as he plans to reach out to her in order to move closer to Sam. Meanwhile, Turk starts a campaign for a promotion.

My Thoughts:

Well, with only 3 episodes (including this one) left in series, I sincerely wish I only had to say season there, you can start to see things wrapping up. Turk moving up in his career, Kelso taking stock in some ways, the Todd looking for a high five from the Janitor, JD thinking about his future and family… who knows what will happen next year, I would say spin off but other than a few episodes and the webisodes the interns are seldom seen. Anyone else feel like they are trying to make JD & Elliot’s direction a little too obvious?

This week was good. The couples bickering was quite funny and welcome back to Scott Foley. Shawn (S.F.) always was one of my favorites from Elliot’s boyfriend list. Anyone else watch the Unit? I digress. The hook-up between Shawn and Kim (Elizabeth Banks) was a great idea (side note…I know I do that a lot, sorry, but I wonder what it’s like to be a writer for a show like Scrubs.)

Turk is always good when he is confident. The many ways he annoys Dr. Cox for the Chief of Surgery job seemed typical of Turk and very entertaining. The newly married Janitor is comedy gold as always, whether it’s delivery or he comes up with the rants who knows. Either way it’s always awesome to watch.

It was also nice to see Kelso get a little bit of focus. Since he retired it’s been a hit and miss with an actually story line from him. And this week may have some future applications, anyone think he will go back to work at Sacred Heart or will Scrubs pull a patented funny/sad episode?

For now, on the the music, quotes and moments after the jump. What did everyone else think?

My Music (scrubs music listing):

Goodnight Song by Tammany Hall Closing song as cast realizes what they are missing

My Great Moments:

Shawn (Scott Foley) is always good. His delivery, his style, the way JD tone always changes when he talk to him. So good.

Kelso ate a live starfish on the beach for a dollar bet from the Janitor? Keep this in mind kids, drunk bets never pay.

Notice all the various poses/ activities going on when Turk rallies the troops for the “good Word” support.

Weiner cousins? Bigingo sisters? Notice the other cousins? Kelso& the Janitor, Snoop Dogg Doctor & Beard Face…

The Janitors’s hat for Turk, where can I buy one of these?

Turk totally deserves the new C.O.S. spot, but what happened to Dr. Winn?

J.D.’s fascination with unicorns…”Their magical!”

the “Ghosts of Couples Past”…great moment, great line

notice Mickhead taking a pic of Bob’s open gown?

My Quotes:

Janitor: You have to make compromises, like my wife is allergic to raccoons so I had to throw out my comforter.

Kim (about Shawn): Yea, he got drunk and asked me to sell him on the black market.

Turk: Time to call in the closer (Enter Carla)

Kim (concerning JD’s unicorn stories): Seriously, How do you come up with so many?

Dr. Cox: Bob would you close the back of that thing up
Kelso: Chill, it’s for the ladies

Turk: Salute!

Don’t Miss the Credits:

the Janitor presents Turk with his ne “Chief” hat. Seriously, how awesome is that hat?

Scrubs is better than any other show shows the perfect mix of comedy and emotion in my opinion. This episode was much more dramatic that Part I, but the comedy was great and well placed. Dr. Cox came clean about how he felt with Jordan, the Janitor came up with a non-evil and sincere thought, Carla was a wife first for once, and JD did find a way to tell Elliot he loved her… By the way, I almost felt like he was going to propose to Elliot, close I suppose, he did give her a $436 replica Brady Bunch tiki necklace.

I’ve got so many quotes and moment I don’t feel like I have much else to say here for now. So read on. As far as the episode, what did everyone else think?

My Music:

The song that Ted (Sam Llyod aka Mr. Musical Genius) at the wedding was Hey Ya and it is originally done by Outkast, however there is an acoustic version made famous by Mr. Matt Weddle of Obidiah Parker (try this for the mp3 ). Either way Ted version was awesome, definitely one of my favorite songs ever on Scrubs and that’s saying something because the music is awesome.

side note: for a soon to be complete listing of all Scrubs Music look no further!

My Quotes:

Janitor: Where’s Todd?
Ted: Last time I saw him he was stuffing seaweed down his swimming trunks.
Janitor: Sure, Where’s Doug?

Ted: Awww… I put ranch on my face.

Carla: On behalf of women everywhere let me thank you for equating sex with love. We love that.

Janitor: You’d be weird too if your mother aged backwards like mine did.

JD: I love you more than Turk, it’s hard for me to say that but it’s true.

Justice of the Peace Van: I am not a strong public speaker, nor am I that familiar with the Bible.

Janitor: Van? I drove one of you.

My Greatest Moments:

The Janitor actually says something heartfelt. He has come so far for someone who was originally supposed to be only in JD’s mind.

Bill Lawrence. Face it he was awesome. From his bar scene to his role as the wedding official. Seriously good stuff.

Ted. Oh my how funny and he is a musical God. His sunburn issue is quite funny.

JD’s punishment form the Janitor. “Why are there fish on my hands?”

Awesome wedding. I wish I would have though to make everyone else stand while I sit.

Hey ya. Ted’s version was so good it deserves mention twice.

Doug. Even I felt sorry for him not getting an invite, but I am still rolling from him laying on the morgue freezer shelves.

Turk’s Jefferson dance as he follows Carla to the water.

High tide five… it managed to cover the Janitors name. It’s coming in the finale I believe.

Stay for the Credits

Kelso who managed to spend the entire trip drinking Bahama Mamas at the outdoor bar is encouraged by the bartender (ps. enjoy a few good bartender jokes) to “get out and see the island”. so he does get out… and order a Bahama Mama at another bar.

There was a lot of funny stuff here tonight. The brain trust was back and those scenes were awesome. I really wish I knew if the Janitor’s small rants were made up or scripted, either way…”with her the mop always came first”, oh my. Ted’s one liner pieces deliver so much humor it could be a show in itself. It could be called “Better Off Ted” but the show would be only 4 minutes long or so…well, seems that name is already taken. Oh well. Cox had some great zingers as well, and still got a few “JD is a girl” references in there. Classic.

Does anyone else feel like despite this being the Janitor’s wedding they are taking this somewhere with JD and Elliot? I just get that kind of vibe, there was job/life revelations from Elliot in My Full Moon and now all the I love you talk. Maybe it’s just me?

Any thoughts?

More to come after the jump.

My Quotes:

Ted: I feel like you raped my soul

Lloyd: Can I borrow 80,000 bucks?
The Janitor: Can’t really swing that Lloyd, our credit line is over extended since we had Cheap Trick play at the brain trust picnic.

JD: He is apart of our family, a horrible horrible part, like an uncle that shows up at your ballet class and whispers ‘”good girl” when you plie.

JD: I am talking to your table as well Todd, but to your chair…not your chair.

Turk: I still don’t like downstairs…
Turk: Downstairs!
JD: Really?
Turk: No!… What is wrong with you?

the Janitor: I can’t believe that you came!… Why the hell did you come?
JD: I rallied the troops!
the Janitor: I invited you to a foreign country on 3 days notice. You weren’t supposed to come! I just wanted the gifts.

Dr. Cox (to JD): Hey Diane, here comes my ex-wife and your beard.

Carla: Baby, for the last time, Mermaids aren’t real.
Turk: I know what I saw woman!

My Greatest Moments:

The Janitor was in love before with another janitor?

The brain trust

Cardboard five!

Can’t believe they don’t want to include the Todd in their Bahamas trip.

I would not be cool with downstairs either…what is wrong with you!?

JD’s Brady bunch day dream was so funny… plus any use of the word “interweb” is pure comedy gold.

I COMPLETELY agree with JD… Elliot is really obsessing over the I love you thing, it should be enough just to say it. Especially after the speech she gave at the beginning.

the Todd. Went to med school in the Bahamas and his mentor was the best high-fiver in all the world.

I’m still laughing about when Carla starts to walk up on the beach.
”Don’t you nah nah nah my wife”
”It doesn’t look any better walking away”

Stay for the Credits:

The Janitor and a sad, umbrella holding Ted.

Janitor: Ted you had one job, keep the people I invited from actually coming to the wedding. Did you tell them about the octopi that would drag them into the trees and suck their faces off?
Ted: I did but they didn’t believe me.
Janitor: What? Ok, this isn’t a problem, did you remember the octopus suit I made for you?
