I’ll run down my regular music moments and quotes below but I’m pretty sick so I’ll just hope the discussion gets the rest. Just don’t jinx it.

Marshall: You know how Lily & I have been looking for couple friends ever since we lost Robin & Barney and Ted & Stella, and Ted & Robin, and Ted & Victoria…geeze Ted, when are you gonna get your live together?
Ted: How did we end up here?

Ted: Marshall, 4 out of 5 dentist just threw up in their mouths.

Robin: My panties would drop so hard there would be a hole below me halfway to China.

Barney: Giddy-what-up

Jim Nantz: Unbelievable. You know. There’s two things you don’t do. One, you don’t open an email from Phil Simms in from of your kids…

Ted: Yea…I’m totally gonna site my kids down one day and tell them about the time Uncle Barney nailed 7 chicks in a row…

MOMENTS OF AWESOMENESS

• Barney calls his shot.
• Marshall’s Sasquatch fixation “Sasquatch isn’t fictional”
• Barney might get fired? While Barney losing his job isn’t really awesome at all, it was very cool how he handles his stress. This bring me to my next moment:
• Jim Nantz. High fiving, making sports analogies about sex, kicking his chair, calling Barney a ‘playa’…the dude was great tonight.
• The reference to “performance enhancing drugs”. Espically when Marshall asks for the time, counts on his fingers to 4 then get’s up with the pillow and ask to go to the hospital…YOU CAN TEST ME IF YOU WANT JIM NANTS!!!
• Wendy. I love it when Wendy (Charlene) is on the show, I wish Carl would show back up but I’m still happy with the Wendy appearance.
• How many people will start talking about Victoria possibly being the mother again because of the reference? Even though we know she is not.
• Marshall’s “Seven Up, Seven Down” hats tribute to Barney’s week.
• Mustache Pete Drexel
• Ted helps Barney check the scouting report in a Major League tribute.
• IS it just another coincidence that Nick Swisher (who happens to be dating Ted’s dream girl, JoAnna Garcia) was on tonight?

Then again, she is pretty hot.

   It nice to have some hype around an episode and the Legendary 100th episode of How I Met Your Mother definitely had a lot of hype. Girls versus…wait for it…suits was an extremely funny episode. I wasn’t one of the lucky one’s who got to watch it early and in a way it’s nice to be surprised along with everyone else. If you visit here I’m sure you know it, but don’t venture further unless you want some spoilers…

    The amazing thing is how one of my favorite and least favorite things (as well as the focal point of the show) is the pursuit of the mother. I mean it’s a continual teaser and honestly despite all we “know” about the future mom, none of it really matters without a face to put it with. I mean sure we got a lot of clues tonight, the bus, the room mate, the yellow umbrella return, the tastes, she plays bass…she even has ankles evidentially, but does any of that actually bring us closer to the mother? Not only that, but I get sick of every headline I see about the show having something to do with is bla bla the mother, she has been cast for an episode…seriously Carrie Underwood? To me the whole show has gone past just meeting the mother despite the title. I digress.

    So the whole episode revolves around two plots. Ted and Cindy with mother teasers and Barney and Suits…with that hot bartender lady.  The whole Ted story was intriguing. Despite my small rant above it is still nice to feel like we’re moving towards meeting the mother, even if we aren’t any closer than the first episode. Old Ted (Bob Saget) got more voice time in tehi episode than the previous seasons combined it seemed. And his narrations points were excellent. I especially loved, “Your mother’s rendition of Memories preformed by an English muffin is to this day one of the most hauntingly beautiful things I have ever heard”

   As for the Barney story. Just wow. Neil Patrick Harris is amazing. His delivery of the list of women he has landed (a butcher, a baker, a candlestick maker…yes we are to the rhyming section now) was quite funny. And you do have to love how much he cares for his suits. The organ donor suit (with appearance from Tim Gunn as Barney’s taylor… continuity?), the suit cremation and the suit angel in the sky really drove the point home.

And to top it all off, the musical number, Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit was awesome! I suppose if you’ve got a cast that can do that (esp. NPH) then why not use it.

So as you can tell, I loved episode 100. definitely my favorite of the season.

Moments of Awesomeness

• Barney… water skiiing in a suit, running for help from his taylor, music number… you name it.
• How quickly Ted got kicked to the curb by Cindy when he was too interested in her room mate.
• Lily being overly into the bartender
• More so than Lily, is just how cool Marshall is about loving his wife.
• Situational Hotness and bartender Robin… “I was somebody back there!”…and not to be critical but where was Carl? or Wendy?
• Saving a suit’s life… be a suit donor.
• Ted’s triplet schnauzers, Frank, Lloyd and Wright… I love architecture jokes like that.
• Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit.

    Also, and I really want to hit on this since I harped about it so much on the last episode, Lily wasn’t quite as annoying this episode. Now I realize that there wasn’t as much Lily this time but still. Not only that but I fell like the married couple was shown a little more positive this time. And I simply loved Marshall’s I’m a good boyfriend speech. Now we could just get the writers to remember all the little quirky intricacies they create for each character. I love continuity, not only that but it would have been hilarious to see Robin on the ski lift in shorts, eh?
    On a side note, anyone know where you can find Alexander’s Famous Beer? It’s one of the beer labels I always see on the show. I wonder if it’s real or one just a label the props department made up… Anyway, I just felt that there was a lot good about this episode.  But enough about me, what did everyone else think?

How I Met Your Mother Music:

• Explosion by Potent – heavy metal that captures the mood of Barney and Robin’s fight

Legendary Lines:

Barney: 100% effective. You can’t fight if you aren’t there, that’s what Ghandi taught us.

Marshall: Call me crazy but…
Ted: Crazy.

Ted: I’m not sure you know who Ghandi is…

Ted: I welcomed them to the neighborhood, had a hard candy, nodded at a racist comment…

Not So Awesome Moments :

• Flashbacks and continuity… I mean come on, just last episode Robin went ice skating in a skirt and short sleeves! She’s from Canada, eh?
• Barney and Robin’s advice session with Lily and Marshall seemed a little rushed at the end.

Moments of Awesomeness:

• Slap Bet… even thought it wasn’t slap #4 on Barney
• Barney… what can I say, the dude know how to give a speech. I don’t even know what he is saying but NPH really can deliver.
• Lily’s Shining Impression. 
• Marshall’s I’m a good boyfriend speech.
• Callbacks that work… like Lily making pancake and bacon strip for Sunday breakfast.
• Bagpipes.

The Re-Return:

Lily and Marshall make up after their argument and "play the bagpipes"… then we see their downstairs neighbor’s reaction.

The thing that annoys me most about most season finales is that someone most always has to die. Luckily, the makers of How I Met Your Mother, must share my feelings and thus we get our own set of clichés. And while we did end up at the hospital (again), a relationship blossomed (again), and a cliffhanger (duh) it was so funny, I really couldn’t care less. The only thing I didn’t like is they HIMYM doesn’t get an hour long season finale.

The callbacks in this episode were priceless. And All the plotlines were done well and made me laugh the whole way through. Also, I LOVED the goat. It appears that putting a barnyard animal in a sitcom is instant comedy genius.  I’m honestly not sure which has more hype and build up…the goat, what really happened with that pineapple or who the mother is? Well at least one question has been answered now, though I wonder how they “get rid” of the goat? Plus we did anyone else catch a glimpse of “the slutty pumpkin” as Marshal stood as Dracula to make the leap?

The Robin and Robin story line was excellent, yet not too revealing. Barney’s conversation with Ted was such a good scene, and the hug (holding tears back).  The continual back and forth of Robin Mosbying Barney and Barney’s reaction was priceless. Their hospital scene was great, the trouble doesn’t seem so troubling. Throughout the entire season we have seen Barney make this gradual push towards this…and while I don’t think that he or Robin can change their ways immediately, I do think the journey will be strange but funny. I hope they keep the two together long term or something of the sort.  The scene before Barney makes the leap speaks volumes to their feelings. While we have seen many episodes where Barney glances at Robin, knowing there is something more, this may be one of the first time we have seen Robin look that way at Barney.  It was so significant too, Barney making that leap, Robin urging him on with their shared look. Robin belongs with Barney, but we will see how they play this out.

I do love all the talk about the mother, it’s fun to think about, discuss. But I enjoy the journey al lot more. Carter Bays said in an interview with Alan Spinwall that he won’t answer the “when will we meet the mother” question because his preference is a spoiler. And knowing that the mother is in Ted’s class, well that could make things move quick but if the final moment of the show are “and that’s how I met your mother” which I am more of a fan of then I hope they postpone it as long a s possible. I think they could keep the show going after she is introduced but I enjoy the journey and stories of these 5 friend so much I really hate to see it move too quickly. And since we know the Mother was in Ted’s Architecture class, I would think we can easily eliminate some mother candidates (ehem…Robin, Victoria…)

“You know what? Let’s sort this out later”…shall we? I’ll recap a bit more with the bullet points and Legendary Lines…

• Murder Train by the Foreskins (played and Ted and the Goat fight…it’s the go to violence song for the show now, bravo) now if they would only release it!

 Legendary Lines:

Marshall: Lily, when Evil Knievel sat astride his star spangled rocket on the rim of Snake River Canyon, do you think his wife said, “Honey, Get down from there!”
Lily: For the last time I am not Linda Knievel. I will never be Linda Knievel!
Marshall: You don’t need to remind me.

Lily:  You’re gonna break whatever it is that pumps that black sludge through his brains.

Barney: You happened upon a beautiful suit. A beautiful Canadian suit. Double breasted…mmmmm…

Barney:  This is so not pimped out, if anything this is pimped in.

Hospital Orderly: But remember buddy. Baahh means baahh.

Barney: The trouble doesn’t seem so troubling.

Lily: Barney planned on being a violinist.

Marshall: I AM NEVER EATING RIBS AGAIN!!!… in front of Ted.

Marshall: I did it!
Lily: Yes you did!
Marshall:  I’m getting a motorcycle.
Lily:  You absolutely are not

Moments of Awesomeness:

• First and foremost , the goat. The fight scene had me rolling…also I love it when they play Murder Train. I wish I could find that song for download.
• Vampire Marshall. All of his “leap scenes” were cool but the vampire look at the Halloween party took the cake.
• “The Mosby”… you know I actually used “the Mosby” before Ted did, though I eventually married the girl…true story. (ps, this is not fuel for you Ted/Robin peeps)
• Callbacks, Marshall and Evil Knievel, the goat, the roof events, Sven, no one watching Robin’s morning show (somebody watch it please?), Lily keeping secrets, Marshall’s “I can jump that far”, the Halloween party and the slutty pumpkin, Murder Train … callbacks are great anytime in HIMYM but ESPECIALLY in a season finale! (also, I’m sure I missed some)
• Robin and Barney’s conversation. The back and forth. Fear or commitment vs. the Mosby reaction. Then the kiss. All in all the hospital scene was funny and awesome.
• I love the way Ted goes through half the episode with the goat hoof print on his forehead.
• So funny when the Rib Town guys broke up with Ted.
