What the Awesomeness Poster Says
September 25, 2007
I watch very little television to be honest. In fact, I was about three shows, Scrubs, How I Met Your Mother and thanks to my wife, LOST. So last night, while watching How I Met Your Mother, I noticed the Awesomeness poster mentioned from Season 1. And I am pretty sure I figured out what it says…despite the poor quality of what I was looking at. Here are some screen shots and we will see if you agree.
Now… Once I started making out words I had to laugh because it was what I figured it would be. From this picture I made out, “When I get sad, I stop being sad..” and then it gets too fuzzy. But I am fairly certain it ends with “and be awesome instead.”
Now, I know what you are saying..”Who really cares?”…Well I do so I’ll keep on. Now If you look at the second shot it looks like there is a little more. So I am pretty sure it says “True Story” and under it maybe has “Barney Stinson”. If you think differently let me know.
I’ll do my best to find the picture and Photoshop up a poster. I was also very interested in all the extra publicity the show is planning this year. See this press release for more information.
Be Awesome.
*UPDATE* - For those of you visiting here, you might want to check out a more recent post with all you will ever want to know about Barney’s Awesomeness Poster. Not only does it tell you “everything about it, but also here to buy one or what you need to easily make on of your own

If anyone finds a means of purchasing this poster please post it here; I would pay top dollar to have this in my office.

I commissioned an ‘awesomeness’ poster to be made. The picture is a bit different. I’ve got 3 fighter jets flying over some skyscrapers and I used a quote from the liberty bell episode. Something about licking the crap out of life.

I’ve been working on an awesomeness poster, but I can’t seem to find the same photo. It looks like an f18 fighter jet, but I’m honestly for certain. I found some great jet shots that I might use instead, but it’s just not quite the same. Thanks for the comments AC and whatigotsofar.

Yeah, your reading is fine. It’s from earlier in the show. According to this, it’s from episode 23: http://www.tv.com/how-i-met-your-mother/where-were-we/episode/841287/summary.html
When I get sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead. True story.

Thanks for the confirmation Jon. I knew he had said it before in season 1, I just need another set of eyes to make sure it said “True Story” at the end.

I agree, it states “When I get sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead. True story.” You can see a few good moments at the end of Season 3 Episode 1. F-16 flying upwards from bottom right to upper left as you look at the poster… If you ever find it available for sale, let me know. I want one too!

This poster actually comes with season two DVD, but only exclusively at Target.

I forgot to mention that you guys are right. That’s exactly what the poster says.

Sweet. Thanks for the information and the confirmation (the rhymes don’t cost extra people). Any idea of the poster size?
October 3rd, 2007 at 6:30 pm
I’m at work right now and the poster’s at home, so I can’t measure it for you. But it’s definately bigger than your average 8.5 x 11 piece of paper, but smaller than one of those giant movie posters. Judging from the screen captures up top, I’d say it’s the same size as Barney’s.

I work for a printing/graphic design company and have already made this poster but with a different picture. I got a picture of the cast at the bar. 24 x 36. Made it in photoshop. Me and my girlfriend got the idea near the end of last season. I got my specs from the actual motivational posters that i saw at my local walmart. If you wanna ask me anything please feel free to email me hightide25@gmail.com

Thanks John and Chris. I should have the poster I have been working on up in the next few days. I plan to make it a free download for the the desktop too.

[...] a lot of people are very taken by not only Barney’s Awesomness motivational poster (probably my most popular post to date was just about what the poster said) from How I Met Your Mother (great season so far, btw.), but also by his whole collection of [...]

@Jacob…
so I’m not sure whether your comment was a question, a statement or typing for the fun of it. I mention being able to get the awesomeness poster (a small version) in another post of mine.
Thanks for stopping by & cheers.

You can go here http://diy.despair.com/motivator.php and create your own poster and have it printed…
May 1st, 2008 at 12:19 pm
DB…that is true…I have used their services before… the prints they provide are only 11×14 (hardly a size worthy of awesomeness)… I talk more about the poster and options in this post, though maybe I should do another clarifying options:
Thanks for the visit!

I got tired of waiting for this poster so I designed my own replica. Check it out at http://www.zazzle.com/ogbutch
Let me know what you think.

Mike,
In a more recent post I talk about having made a poster… There are several smaller versions available for download on the net (and now a few for sale), but the photo from iStockPhoto (the only place with the awesomeness poster plane photo) has a very hefty fee for being able to modify and/or resell it.
You have read the my other posts right (my sad attempt at encouraging readers)?
May 18th, 2008 at 5:59 am
I did read them and you are correct about the fee for the rights to the photo being a bit steep.
May 19th, 2008 at 11:14 am
your the man Mike, thanks for reading.
May 19th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
No problem Aaron.
June 17th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
If you purchase the second season of HIMYM, then you get the poster free with it. Mine has been hanging on my fridge for months.
June 17th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
ooops… nevermind, apparently you guys figured that out, and apparently I bought my second season at Target. LOL.
June 17th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
Unfortunatly I ordered my season 2 from Amazon and that is why I made my own.
June 17th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Thanks for reading Erica…and I mean reading all the info!
I didn’t like the size (or folds) of the one that came with Season 2… so I made a few different options available.
@ Mike…always nice to see you visiting the site man.

No problem Aaron, I like to stay in the loop.
